Raasay lies between the Isle of Skye and the mainland of Scotland and is 14 miles long by
4 miles at its widest. It is accessed by a 25-minute ferry crossing from Sconser on the Isle
of Skye. Raasay boasts a well-stocked community shop, post office, community hall, an
excellent primary school and 2 major businesses, jointly employing nearly 70 people at the
height of the season. It is within easy commuting distance of Portree on Skye and is only
2.5 hours from Inverness and 5 hours from Glasgow by car.
Raasay is also home to a diverse, friendly community of under 200 people. The island has
enjoyed excellent healthcare over the years and, after a gap, we have now entered an
exciting new chapter. Professor Sir Lewis Ritchie’s review of out-of-hours healthcare in
Skye, Lochalsh and South West Ross created an exceptional climate of change and
Raasay was one of the first places to benefit. Raasay has two resident nurses and there is
currently a vacancy for a third. This is where we need you!
